So I went to fill up at a gas station on the way home from South Padre, TX, and my car ended up having to be towed to Subaru for breaking down. What happened? There was water in the gas pump. Moral of the story. If you need gas in South Texas, don’t go to Swinney Switch, or you might need new injectors.

will you having them cover the cost of towing and repair? there is a mandated max level of water allowed in gas tanks. if you can prove they are over those, which to cause this level of damage they must be over by a lot. they should be liable.

How you like the WRX? Commute-wise, is this a good idea for someone who spends 3 hours a day in their car to and from work?

I always go to a BP/Hess/Exxon for this reason. I mean the chances are still there, but in my weird messed up logic I feel like the chances are way lower than one of those off brand stations.
All though they just recently changed one of the gas stations I use regularly to a speedway so now it is kind of inconvenient.

Same thing happened to my 05 xt, had to replace 2 injectors. I guess they are really sensitive to it.

The WRX is a fantastic daily driver. Although my daily commute isn’t as long as yours, I still manage to squeeze in a couple of sprints to the speed limit, one very curvy road, and on the way home, two teenagers plus backpacks in the back with room to spare. All of this puts a smile on my face every day.
Things to watch out for include speed limits (with ambitious police officers patrolling them), fuel mileage (averaging just over 19 mpg, mostly city driving), and boneheads who want to race (was tailed by a 350z just this morning).

Well, this one is the STI, but even then it’s pretty fantastic. I drove it for 6 hours to South Padre from Austin and I was content the whole time. I would imagine the WRX is even better comfort-wise.

The lawyer in me says sue ‘em, but you’d probably get some good-ol-boy judge who’d throw it out. Will be interesting to see what they offer, if anything.

it’s not the water is not from the gas. and more often than not the brand on the sign is not the brand in the tanks. Even with actual corp stations like a hess they will some times take loads of non hess gas if that’s what available. So really you’re not protecting you self.
Water can seep in through the tanks as they age, enter from the port or just condense from the air that gets trapped in the tanks. whats even crazier is that I promise you every tank you’ve ever pumped gas from has at least an inch of water sitting on top of that gas. I think an inch and a half is the threshold, at least around these parts. also the only way to get said water even if it’s over an inch and a half is if they either are basically empty or have a fualty sending unit thats sucking gas from too high up in the tank.

Sooo, fill up right after they just filled their tanks. Got it!

This is also bad supposedly because when they first fill the tanks the sediments that have settled in the tank are now swirling around.

Fun fuel related fact: do not trust the MPG gauge in the car, assuming it is of similar accuracy to my WRX, it reads about 8% higher than what I get by doing the math after a fill up.

Water would be on the bottom, since fuel is less dense. That’s why you check aircraft fuel for water by draining a bit from the bottom of the tank.

This is part of why I only get gas at QuikTrip, because they guarantee their gasoline, and if you ever have a problem with your car that’s gasoline-related and you bought gas from them, they pay for all the repairs. I’ve only heard of them having to do that a couple times, but it's legit enough they print the offer on their paper bags and on the pumps.
